my excuses

okay...I know I have been super slack about updating the blog but I have a couple of really good excuses.  #1 - we live so far out in the country that our wireless options are no have to drive "into town" to get on-line.  #2 - I HAVE A 3 1/2 WEEK OLD!!  Come on people...sleep deprivation makes it a little difficult to put coherent sentences together, much less coordinate the pictures to go with them! any free time I do have I much prefer watching Lucy play in her bouncy seat, singing to her (she doesn't care that I wouldn't make it through the first audition of American Idol), and squeezing in some QT with my wonderful hubby.  So...we are alive and well...very well.  And here are a few pictures in no particular order for your viewing pleasure.  She's still such a cutie, isn't she?!?!

home sweet home

We're home...after a very long drive back from FL we are getting settled in.  The first couple of days were rough.  Lucy was recovering from 10+ hours in her carseat and a whacky schedule.  Now we are really getting into our groove.  It's been busy, busy, busy seeing all the relatives that have been waiting for Lucy's arrival.  Even though we are all a little worn out it has been so fun introducing everyone to our little sweet pea.  Uncle Robert is a natural...he has already been babysitting.  Lucy loves that beard!  BeBe and Grampa Joe came for dinner and a visit as well as Grandad and Mimi...everyone agrees that Lucy is absolutely adorable and fits right in with our family.  Granny was especially excited to see her...she is the one Lucy is named for.  More later but here are a few new pics

Last days in FL

We are about ready to hit the road back to SC so we are thoroughly enjoying this last bit of time in FL.  Some of our latest excitement - Lucy's umbilical cord fell off!  Check out her cute little belly button.
Other good news...Joey and I had our first "date night" as parents.  There are few people that I would leave my one week child with but my friend Kimberly (experienced mommy of 3) is probably better at taking care of Lucy than I am.  Joey and I went out to see the new Narnia flick - not as good as the first one, in my opinion, but still definitely worth watching.  Of course I love all the Narnia stories and the brilliant way CS Lewis weaves in spiritual truth.  After the movie we went out to dinner and conducted a self-evaluation of our performance as parents thus far...we think we're doing a darn good job : )
As we were driving home I realized that although I missed Lucy (I know...I was only gone for a few hours), it is so good for me as a mother to have time for myself and with my husband.  I have to make sure I step away from diaper changing and cleaning spit-up in order to surround myself with things (besides Lucy) that inspire and encourage me (like the magical adventures of Peter, Susan, Ed, and Lucy...yes - that had a little bit to do with her name : ) so that I don't lose sight of the bigger picture of our lives.  It is fun to see how everything I experience now I somehow relate back to her and my hopes and dreams for her life.  Anyway...I need a I better stop rambling...
