golf and his girls

now that we are a family of 3 joey and i are trying to be a little more intentional about creating opportunities for family memories and traditions.  a few weeks ago we decided to carve time out of our busy schedules for family day once per week.  so...every friday we are trying to do something fun together as a family.  (i guess the "fun" part is up for interpretation since yesterday we spent all morning cleaning out our office)  last friday happened to be joey's birthday so of course we had to make it extra special.  i cooked breakfast at home, we were all lazy around the house, joey opened presents, we went to redeem one present (new running shoes from try sports), ate lunch outside (what a beautiful day!), and then we hit the driving range.  as joey prepares to play again it's hard for him to take an entire day off from golf so lucy and i decided to join him.  i even took my clubs (which, by the way, were custom made by my very talented husband).  i think at least 40% of my swings actually made contact which isn't bad for me.  lucy took a nice little catnap while joey tried to help me with my swing and then she woke up in time to watch daddy in action for a while (she actually really loves that : )  when i was sufficiently sore (i guess i need to hit balls more than once every 4 months) we headed back home where we put our good little sleeper to bed and had a romantic italian dinner on the back porch...all in all definitely a fun family friday...

beach baby

"the sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever." ~jacques cousteau
for me our beach trip was the gift of slowing down, listening instead of talking, simple pleasures, an overall highly successful recalibration of my life. during the 3 days we were there i actually read one entire book (the shack...check it out!), penned a few entries in my journal, heard from God as i read his word, had deep conversations with my husband, slept in the sun, ate fresh seafood, shared the gift of the beach with my daughter for the first time...
for lucy it was one more amazing discovery...i wish i knew what was going through her little head as she stood mesmerized with her feet in the sand. i wonder if she thought "this is the biggest bathtub i've ever seen!" i'm just so glad that she liked it because being the beach lover that i am she'll be spending a lot of time there!

lucy's room

4 years!

a couple of weeks ago joey and i celebrated our 4 year anniversary.  my incredibly thoughtful hubby brought home wine and cheese for us to enjoy (which is a long standing tradition for us...meaningful conversation over cabernet and brie).  I love that in the picture I took there is a little pair of baby nail clippers...evidence of our baby love who is now a sweet little addition to our world...even wine and cheese night : )  lucy also was mesmerized by the pretty flowers daddy brought mama...they are gerber daisies like we had at our wedding...again - mr. thoughtful : )  uncle robert (lucy's favorite babysitter) came over to hang out and put her to bed while joey and i actually got out of the house for a real date...dinner at 131 main where we both savored seared tuna salad (yum!) and quiet time to enjoy each other and be grateful for the marriage we grow into more and more every year...

"and over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.  let the peace of christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.  and be thankful..." ~ colossians 3:14-15

...love, unity, peace, thankfulness - may they continue to fill our home...
