obedience

y'all know my obsession with words and their meanings...here's one that keeps popping up on my radar lately...

0~be~di~ence {noun}: compliance with someone's wishes or orders; acknowledgment of one's authority

in my life God is the ultimate authority so my desire is to comply with his wishes for me. although my intentions are good this isn't always easy. i was just reading a very familiar verse from the book of Matthew that reminded me of exactly how much God requires of me if i truly want to demonstrate obedience...
"whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it...' ~matt 16:25

it prompted me to pray this prayer...
Father ~ i abandon the life that i 'had in mind' and instead seek the path you created for me. i trust that you know best...that you love me...that you created me...that you have a specific purpose for me to fulfill...don't let me get in the way of that...

God is God. Because He is God, He is worthy of my trust and obedience. I will find rest nowhere but in His holy will, a will that is unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what He is up to.
